ACE Tucson is a community of six. It is a wonderful blend of three second-year teachers and three first-year teachers. ACE Tucson community members teach in three schools: Santa Cruz, San Xavier Mission School, and St. Augustine Catholic High School. All of these schools are located in the Diocese of Tucson.

What is unique about your community?

We pride ourselves on upholding the Tucson tradition of sharing many meals together each week. Together in our brand new home, we laugh in our living rooms, we grade papers on our many couches, and we pull up weeds from our rock lawn. Our community leads a strangely similar life to a small cohort of Franciscan Sisters of Charity, living at the Mission, who also serve the two ACE schools. We can often be found attending events with our wise, habit-wearing counterparts. Because ACE Tucson serves only three schools, we have the unique opportunity to work together in a system that is closely knit-we enjoy sports rivalries, attending one another’s fish fries, and getting to know one another’s students and fellow teachers.

Provide a brief description of Tucson:

Tucson is an awesome city. As the provider of beautiful sunsets, mountain views, and gorgeous scenery, the Old Pueblo has lots to offer. The home of the University of Arizona and their much beloved Wildcats, Tucson has a number of historic, social, and cultural areas. Fine Mexican dining, vibrant Mexican culture, and street festivals abound. Tucson boasts Saguaros galore and an occasional wild javelin. ACE Phoenix also happens to be two hours away.

What do you like most about Tucson?

Sabino Canyon, rock lawn, Fourth Ave, goat’s feet, Chipotle burritos, the U, the green arrow after the light turns red, 80 degree winters, beautiful sunsets, road runners, shopping carts, marathon training, monsoons, Rocco’s pizza, shady characters at the gym, Sonoran Desert Museum, Rachel Moreno (and her cooking!)
