Since its inception in 2006, ACE’s English as a New Language (ENL) program has helped Catholic school teachers across the country develop the skills to better serve children in their classrooms whose primary language is not English—thereby fulfilling one of our goals to further open the doors of Catholic schools to the immigrant church. The one-year certification program adds a Teacher of Students of a New Language endorsement to an Indiana teaching license (reciprocal with ESL/ESOL/ELL licenses in most other states). It begins with a two week summer session on the Notre Dame campus, after which participants return to their classrooms and complete credit hours online.
