POSITION DESCRIPTION AND DUTIES

Teach undergraduate and graduate secondary (and possibly elementary) science education courses in the School of Education for prospective and in-service teachers; supervise students in the field; develop and maintain relationships with the urban public schools; advise students; engage in scholarly research and writing in topics concerning science education; serve on department, school, college, and university committees; develop training or research proposals in science education or in the field of candidate’s area of expertise; and demonstrate professional involvement in the field.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Doctorate by September 2008 in science education or in one of the sciences (biology, chemistry, physics or geology).
Preferred qualifications: Successful teaching experience at the secondary level; ability to teach secondary as well as elementary science methods courses; documented evidence or the potential for successful scholarly activity in science education; academic preparation and ability to teach science pedagogy courses effectively; certification as a school science teacher; ability to use technology as a tool in teacher education; experience with in-service presentations and/or curriculum development; familiarity and exemplary science curricula; and commitment to work in multicultural and urban educational settings.
