Program Director: Visitation Scholarship Program

Founded in 1989, the Visitation Scholarship Program provides comprehensive and ongoing educational support to students attending Visitation Catholic Elementary School located in Chicago’s Englewood neighborhood. This ongoing support includes tuition assistance to Catholic High Schools coupled with a wide-ranging curriculum designed to foster participants’ academic, personal, and spiritual growth. The Program Director is responsible for:

  • Designing and implementing the program curriculum for 9-12 grade students; this curriculum aims to teach students academic skills (study skills, ACT Prep, etc.), life skills (financial literacy, public speaking, etc.), and technology skills
  • Designing and implementing the program curriculum for 5-8 grade students in the Junior Scholars Program, a feeder program for potential high school students that focuses on enrichment activities including field trips
  • Supervising students on community service trips and projects
  • Meeting with counselors and staff at participating high schools to support and monitor progress of scholarship recipients
  • Assisting in the implementation of the parent programs
  • Providing Development Coordinator with data and anecdotal information of students’ success
  • Working with Board of Directors on strategic planning for programming

The ideal candidate will have an understanding of and appreciation for Not-for Profit organizations with educational missions. Additionally, candidates should have a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of two years experience in an education-related field. Skills required include advanced written and oral communication skills, demonstrated organizational problem solving and decision making skills, and the capacity to work fluently in a culturally diverse milieu – one that includes relating directly and effectively with students, their parents, the Visitation School faculty, administration/staff, the faculty of participating high schools, and the scholarship program’s Board of Directors. Candidates must be willing to work within a flexible schedule that would include programming on nights and weekends.
