July 06, 2009Melissa Green

On June 26, 2009, the Indiana Department of Education approved a new certification program from the Alliance for Catholic Education (ACE) at the University of Notre Dame for preparing Catholic school teachers to teach children with mild to moderate disabilities. The 18-credit hour certification program will begin next June for experienced Catholic schoolteachers across the nation.

Participants will spend 2-3 weeks on campus taking six credit hours, and the remaining 12 credit hours will be taken on-line in the fall and spring semesters. Candidates have already begun applying to the program, and ACE expects to have 25 candidates in the first cohort. The program will be directed by Joyce Johnstone, Senior Director of Program Development for the Institute for Educational Initiatives.
