Magnificat Schools
The mission of the Magnificat Initiative is to form strategic and collaborative partnerships that effect comprehensive school improvment in urban, at risk Catholic schools.
What is the Magnificat Initiative?
The Magnificat Initiative partners The University of Notre Dame with an individual Catholic School. Through this partnership, Notre Dame seeks to leverage its human capital to provide the Magnificat School with the skills needed to (1) Improve Academic Achievement, (2) Strengthen Catholic Identity, (3) Build Community, and (4) Stabilize Leadership. The University of Notre Dame is committed to partner with each of its Magnificat Schools for five years.
How many Magnificat Schools are there?
There are currently 3 Notre Dame Magnificat Schools; (1) St. Adalbert in South Bend, Indiana, (2) St. Ann in Chicago, Illinois, and (3) Holy Redeemer in Washington, D.C. Both St. Adalbert and St. Ann began the Magnificat partnership in 2006 and Holy Redeemer will begin the Magnificat Partnership in the Summer of 2007.
What are some of the things Notre Dame provides each Magnificat School?
Each Magnificat school has its own assets and identity and the way in which Notre Dame partners with each school is unique. However, there are many elements of the Magnificat Initiative that are manifested in all Magnificat Schools. Below is a short list of a few of these elements.
- Each Magnificat School is provided with an Instructional Coach. This instructional coach provides personalized professional development to each teacher.
- Each Magnificat School receives SIT training through Notre Dame’s SIT Program.
- Each Magnificat School creates a strategic plan.
- Each Magnificat School receives $45,000 to purchase instructional resources as determined data provided to the teachers and staff.
- Each Magnificat School receives consultation in best business practices.
