SIT Program
What is a Strategic Intervention Team?
A strategic intervention team is a panel of trained educators who consult with other teachers within the school on how best to serve a student in academic or behavioral need. This panel, or SIT team, then assists faculty members in evaluating learning and behavioral issues of recommended students. Most importantly, the SIT team then works with the teacher, student, and parent to select appropriate learning and behavioral strategies.
Who does the Program affect?
Does the SIT Program only benefit the students who are referred to the SIT team? No, in addition to creating a set of strategies for an individual student, the SIT teams encourage all teachers to use instructional strategies that honor the many learning styles and multiple intelligences present within each classroom. In addition, resources are provided to each school to further develop teachers competencies in differentiated instruction and multiple intelligences.
What is the SIT Program?
The SIT program began in 2005 and currently has trained SIT teams at over 30 Catholic schools. Within these 30 school communities all teachers participate in initial SIT training. The school then selects a core group of teachers to undergo the second wave of training, content enhancement. After all training, this core group becomes the Strategic Intervention Team.
Is it possible to receive SIT Training at my school?
The SIT program currently serves many of the diocese that house the ACE Teacher Formation Program. These schools were selected because of their need and their pre-established relationship with The Alliance for Catholic Education. After all phases of training within our 30 current SIT Schools, we will evaluate the SIT Program and outline its future.
