University of Notre Dame Study of American Pastors
The Task Force believes that the leadership role of pastors is so uniquely important to Catholic schools that no effort to serve Catholic schools can succeed without them. Simply put, when a pastor is dedicated to the success of his parish school, it thrives.
In early 2008, the University of Notre Dame, in conjunction with the Institute for Educational Initiatives, launched a nationwide study of pastors with responsibility for Catholic schools. Over two thousand pastors from nearly every diocese in the country were contacted to participate. Only the third such study in the history of American Catholic education, and the first in nearly ten years, the Notre Dame Study of American Pastors is a systematic analysis of pastors’ needs and perceptions regarding Catholic schools and Catholic education.
Engaging pastors in a national dialogue on Catholic education provides an unequalled and invaluable data set from which the University will formulate an action plan to meet the needs of pastors and continue the ACE mission to sustain and strengthen our Catholic schools.
