Something that is unique about the Corpus Christi community is that we live on a high school campus. Although living on campus can be difficult at times, it certainly makes it a lot easier to be more involved with the school community. ACE teachers can easily walk a few minutes to watch a high school football game, or attend a school concert without any hassle.
Corpus Christi is a smaller city that is easy to navigate. Everything is close and easily accessible. There are plenty of restaurants in the city and beaches nearby. You can basically find any store you are looking for in Corpus. Corpus is home to approximately 200,000 people, which includes a large Naval Air base located approximately 10-15 minutes from downtown. It is a quite diverse city with a military presence, large Hispanic community, oil and energy industry professionals and workers, and “may be the only city in Texas where cowboys and surfers live harmoniously”. It is also home to some of the top high school baseball talent in the entire country.
The nice thing is that the city is close to the water, which can provide a much needed peaceful break after a long day. Padre Island is a great place to visit on the weekend or after school. The weather during the Winter and Spring simply cannot be beat. Corpus is also close to many of the ACE communities in South Texas, so you can take a short drive to a number of fellow communities for some R&R. Corpus is also home to several minor league sports franchises, including the AA baseball Hooks and the Corpus Christi Ice Rays hockey team. The movie theater 5 minutes from our house offers an incredible student discount, and there are several local restaurants that offer great deals.
