What is unique about your community?

Our community is formed with people from an eclectic variation of backgrounds. Our hometowns stretch from California to Connecticut and places in between. One of our housemates has just returned from two years in Uganda helping to bring technology to small villages. We are all passionate about social justice and equal rights for all. Children deserve quality instruction and education regardless of their economic or racial background. We have been brought together in our desire to help close the achievement gap and help children to dream big and reach for the stars.

Provide a brief description of Richmond

We live in Petersburg, VA, which has been tagged as the antique capital of the nation. Petersburg is well known for the Battle of the Crater when Union troops attempted to tunnel under Confederate lines with disastrous results. The siege of Petersburg precipitated Lee’s surrender and the end of the war. Today Petersburg is still a tourist attraction site for all of their museums and parks dedicated to the historic civil war battles that took place there. Petersburg is a nice and quaint little town. Virginia State is a few miles from where we live which should provide opportunities to get involved in the young adult life in Petersburg. Also, we have two members of our community that teach in Richmond, which is less than an hour away. Richmond is a bigger city with tons of attractions and plenty of things to do.
