What is unique about your community?

We’re already very close. All three of us are second-year teachers in Middle School so we spent a lot of time around each other all summer. Being self-contained and small definitely brings its own dynamic, and we’ve loved it so far. We’re all going through very similar experiences at the same time even though we’re at three different schools.

Provide a brief description of Savannah:

We cannot say enough about this city – WE LOVE it so far! It’s cute and quaint and very southern. Downtown is located right on a river, and it’s full of little shops and restaurants and all kinds of entertainment, and we’re also only half an hour from the ocean at Tybee Island.

Some interesting facts about Savannah:
Savannah was one of the few cities spared during General Sherman’s romp through Georgia in the Civil War. Of Savannah, he wrote, “it is far too beautiful a city to burn.” The city is laid out to include 27 old-fashioned squares, which contain monuments and small parks. The city has been the setting for several famous novels and films, including Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, and the park bench scene in Forrest Gump. Food Network chef Paula Dean calls Savannah home, and owns and operates a restaurant downtown.

What do you like most about Savannah?

The city is gorgeous. The streets are covered by a canopy of green trees draped with Spanish moss. There are little squares in the middle of busy streets all over town. The parks have pretty fountains, amazing statues, and all sorts of other things. The architecture throughout the city is beautiful. The people are friendly and we have already been adopted by several Southern mothers.
