Some ideas for what Arch/Bishops can do:

  • Meet with all pastors with schools as well as all pastors who serve in Latino parishes without schools. Facilitate a conversation about engaging Latino families in Catholic schools more effectively.

  • Help pastors to see the critical role that Catholic schools can play in helping Latinos move out of poverty. Latino/a students that attend Catholic schools are 42% more likely to graduate from high school and 2-1/2 times more likely to graduate from college.

  • Ask pastors to support Catholic education regularly and often from the pulpit. Share their own experience of Catholic school (if they went to one). Talk about what it means for their parish to have a school. Encourage them to visit the school on a regular basis.

  • Meet with directors of Hispanic ministry to ask for their help connecting Latino families to Catholic schools.
