Karen Morris

Program Director, AP-TIP IN

Karen Morris is director of the Advanced Placement Training & Incentive program (AP-TIP IN). Morris's work with 33 Indiana public high schools has focused on leading professional development workshops for Advanced Placement® math, science and English teachers and developing study programs for high school students in AP math, science and English designed to help them be successful on their AP exams. The goal of this program is to increase the number of students taking AP courses and to increase the number of AP qualifying scores.

 

Morris continues to be involved in the Edison School Project, a campus visitation and engagement program for 8th grade students, mentors graduate students in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, actively participates in the NSTA, and is an annual presenter at the Hoosier Association of Science Teachers, Inc. conference.

Employed at Notre Dame since 1987, she began her work in the general chemistry program, developing her expertise on student engagement and learning chemistry concepts and science-focused learning strategies. Since 1994, she has also been engaged in the field of science education outreach in local schools. She was the Indiana coordinator for the K-12 Science Curriculum Dissemination Center, a NSF project that brought guided inquiry materials to schools in Indiana, southern Michigan and Ohio. Morris also coordinates the Northern Indiana Regional Science and Engineering Fair and the Expanding Your Horizons in Science and Mathematics™ career conference for middle school girls at Notre Dame.
