"Sofia Fair - Day in the Life of a Frassati Intern"

Sofia Fair - Malpass Fellow, Cohort 8 (Minneapolis-St. Paul)

MSP Frassati Interns

This summer, I had the privilege of working as an Advancement Intern at the Aim Higher Foundation in the Twin Cities through the Frassati Internship. In this position, I was responsible for storytelling—collecting and sharing the stories of the scholarship recipients we support. No day looked the same, but all 7 weeks were filled with adventure, community, and fulfilling work.

8:30 am - 4:30 pm | Work

As the advancement intern, storytelling consisted of connecting with school leaders, getting story leads, and interviewing families that received our help. I worked to create a bank of stories that could be used throughout the year in marketing materials to help promote donor engagement. At the end of the summer, I presented the impact of these stories to our committee members.

AHF Interns

Lunch at my desk was not uncommon when the AHF staff weren't treating us to a local bite.

4:30 pm - 7:30 pm | Post-Work After work, Izzie (a housemate) and I would typically stretch our legs by hitting a workout class on Grand Ave. or taking a walk around Lake Harriet. This was always a great time to call friends and family for a quick catch-up!

As a person who loves to cook for herself, grocery store runs were a common occurrence after work. When we weren’t out as a community trying a new cuisine, I made many of my meals at home.

Groceries

A community favorite: Pizza! We quickly became regulars at Punch Pizza on Grand Ave. and also bonded over our mutual love of pizza.

I SCREAM FOR ICE CREAM! One more thing we bonded over…ice Cream runs to Grand Ole Creamery. A cult classic, summer essential, and childhood throwback.

7:30 - 10:30 pm | Exploration & Community Building

Afterwork activities ranged from service with the ND club of Minnesota to exploring Minnehaha Falls, sunbathing at the UClub, movie night at the Riverview Theater, visiting coworkers in Stillwater, exploring the local farmers market, pickleball game, or going to a Twins Game. Every night would end with a game night at the dining table. While things would get competitive while playing board games, every night would end with a sense of community and mutual understanding.
