Job Summary

The Assistant Principal for Student Support (APSS) leads efforts to create a supportive, inclusive environment where all students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. This role oversees student services, including counseling, learning support, and discipline, while promoting a positive school culture aligned with Don Bosco Cristo Rey’s mission and values.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Lead the Student Support Team, ensuring effective implementation of CAP plans and learning accommodations.

Supervise the School Counseling Director and align counseling services with school goals and student needs.

Manage student discipline, ensuring consistent enforcement of policies and incorporating restorative practices where appropriate.

Facilitate Grade Level Chair meetings to address student needs and support holistic growth.

Plan and oversee school culture-building events, including convocation and student activities.

Track and report on key student data, such as GPA trends, attendance, and support services outcomes.

Coordinate with faculty and staff to address individual student concerns and develop interventions as needed.

Foster an inclusive school culture that celebrates diversity and promotes equity.

Support student leadership initiatives and involvement in extracurricular programs.

Serve as a member of the leadership team, contributing to the school’s strategic goals.

Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Directly supervises the School Counseling Director, Academic Counselor, and members of the Student Support Team.

Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience:

Master’s degree in Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or a related field required; advanced certifications preferred.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in student support, counseling, or school leadership.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Strong understanding of social-emotional learning, behavioral interventions, and restorative practices.
Proven ability to lead diverse teams and manage complex student issues with discretion.
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, with a commitment to fostering student success.
Work Environment:

Must be available for occasional evening and weekend events.
Work hours generally follow the school calendar, with a typical workday beginning at 7:30 AM.
