Elementary and Middle School Library and Media Teacher

Job Summary:
Our Lady Star of the Sea School is seeking a library media professional for the 2025-2026 school year. OLSOS is a faith-based community dedicated to bringing Jesus into our students’ lives through exceptional academics and rich faith experiences. We are looking for an innovative, energetic, faith-filled individual who is passionate about engaging students and challenging them to meet their potential. The ideal candidate should possess the ability to manage the school library, support literacy and research skills, and foster a love of reading among students. This role involves maintaining the library’s collection, collaborating with teachers, and integrating traditional and contemporary information sources and technologies.

Qualifications:
-Bachelor’s degree or higher in Education
-Valid teaching certificate (Elementary, Secondary) issued by the Michigan Department of Ed.
-Experience in STEM learning
-Eagerness to continuously enrich their teaching expertise through engagement in Professional Development opportunities.
-Additionally, the candidate must complete the Protecting God’s Children training

The ideal candidate should be prepared to:
-Organize, catalog, and maintain library resources (books, digital materials, and reference materials).
-Manage the circulation of books, ensuring an efficient checkout and return system.
-Keep the library space clean, welcoming, and conducive to learning.
-Maintain inventory and conduct periodic audits of library materials.
-Order new books and resources aligned with curriculum needs and student interests.
-Promote reading programs, book fairs, and literacy initiatives
-Collaborate with teachers to support classroom learning with appropriate resources.
-Conduct engaging story times and book discussions, which foster the love of reading through interactive activities and reading challenges.
-Teach students research skills, digital literacy, and responsible media use.
-Assist students in selecting age-appropriate reading materials.
-Manage library computers and digital resources.
-Introduce students to online research tools and databases.
-Support students in using educational technology effectively.
-Guide students in developing critical thinking and research skills.
-Develop and enforce library policies and procedures.
-Maintain records and prepare reports as required by administration.
-Attend faculty meetings and professional development training.
-Stay updated on best practices in library science and educational technology.
