Saint Joseph School (SJS) educates in the spirit of the Gospel, inspiring Catholic values, academic excellence, global awareness and service to those in need. SJS serves students from toddlers to grade nine.

SJS is seeking a guidance counselor with excellent interpersonal skills. The counselor will be responsible for providing assistance to students with their social, emotional, spiritual and academic/vocational needs.

The ideal candidate would be one who embraces the SJS mission and who is looking for a place to support students’ abilities and needs. The counselor will be respected and supported, while having the opportunity to establish a counseling program at our school. Reports to: Principal
Job Type: Full-time, Contract
Pay: $45,000 to $55,000 per year

Essential responsibilities:
Use school counseling research-based standards and competencies to implement a comprehensive school counseling framework
Assist students in the areas of academic and career planning, as well as personal/social development
Provide appraisal and advisement to all students through individual meetings, as well as large- and small-group and classroom settings
Collaborate with teachers, families and other staff on identification of students’ academic and social-emotional needs and on intervention strategies
Make appropriate referrals for students and parents to outside agencies and specialists
Participate in activities that contribute to the effective operation of the school
Develop and implement action plans aligned with student goals and data
Participate in team meetings and ones to establish plans for students
Monitor and advise students and their parents on how to progress toward promotion/graduation
Develop a framework for students for graduation and post-high school activities
Review and evaluate student transcripts
Review credits, grades and transcripts with students, helping them meet graduation requirements and develop academic plans for success and future career planning

Job Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in school counseling
Master’s degree in school counseling from an accredited college or university preferred
Ability to utilize technology and data to address student and departmental needs
Ability to work cooperatively with school leadership, staff, families and the community
Empathy and great interpersonal skills
Excellent written and verbal communication
Proficiency with basic computer software such as Word and Excel
Experience working with children and adolescents
Good classroom management skills
Good teamwork abilities
