Duties:
Assist students in areas of social and emotional development in small group facilitated seminars, and provide individual counseling support for students experiencing social or emotional issues.
Collaborate with faculty, staff, and parents to understand and address student needs.
Assist students in developing academic and college/career plans
Provide consultation to the faculty, staff and parents regarding psychosocial issues affecting students and general adolescent development.
Make appropriate referrals for students and parents to outside agencies, when needed.
Strong cultural competency and ability to build trust with students from diverse backgrounds.
Maintain appropriate lines of communication and provide opportunities for parent education.
Maintain boundaries of confidentiality.
Develop and deliver the counseling curriculum.
Promote a positive and inclusive school environment.
Participate in professional development and stay current with best practices in school counseling.
Serve as a consistent, trusted presence for students, with particular attention to those from diverse racial, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Requirements:
A Master’s Degree or above in Counseling/School Counseling/Social Work.
A strong work ethic, as well as good interpersonal, communication, organization, and follow-through skills.
A person who wants to be part of a team in a relationship-based environment.
An understanding of the concerns and pressures of adolescents.
A true enjoyment of working with high school students.
The ability to respond appropriately and manage crisis situations well.
Computer skills, especially experience using the Google Suite.
Qualifications and Experience:
Masters degree in school counseling, social work, psychology or related field required
Five or more years relevant counseling experience, ideally in Catholic and/or independent schools with adolescents and families is preferred.
Maryland State license and/or certification preferred.
Strong knowledge of ethical and legal considerations related to school-based counseling practices.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
