Nativity High School seeks an exceptional, passionate high school math instructor.
Overview
Nativity High School (nativityhs.org) opened its doors with 9th and 10th grade students in August 2024. As a growing school entering our second year, we seek an exceptional and passionate educator to lead our math instruction. This person will have a foundational role at the school and the rare opportunity to help shape the curriculum and our classroom culture.
Every person lucky enough to have a formal education can, in one instant, name the two or three teachers who most profoundly impacted their life. Our aim at Nativity is to fill our classrooms with those deeply passionate, mission-driven people who view teaching as a calling and a life-long vocation.
This role shall include the following duties:
Teach four 50-minute sections of 15-20 students in a daily math course. A sample schedule can be viewed here: (https://www.nativityhs.org/schedule)
Participate in the daily culture-building elements of the Nativity school day, such as Convocation (a 15-minute all-school gathering in the morning), Open Block (a 30-minute period for students to meet with teachers), Daily Devotion (a 30-minute period for prayer and worship).
Assist with Nativity’s bi-weekly service block and events related to the house system. (https://www.nativityhs.org/our-house-system)
Assist the leading after school clubs, study hall and, if appropriate, coaching a sports team.
Demonstrate a willingness to go above and beyond a traditional classroom teaching role. As a start-up school with a unique approach, teachers must be open to helping to build the school culture, creating traditions and deeply engaging with our students and their families. For example, this could take the form of brief home visits with incoming students and their families in order to fully live out the mission of Nativity’s team: “To imitate Christ in the way we see, teach, and love our students.”
Our ideal candidate is a devoted Catholic with a deep commitment to his or her faith. He or She will build close-knit connections with students, families, and faculty and help foster a culture of spiritual devotion at the school. This mission-driven leader demonstrates exceptional emotional intelligence, embraces a servant leadership mentality, and has a unique talent for inspiring students with unending enthusiasm, hard work, and Catholic joy. Our founding teachers will shape Nativity from its inception, leaving an enduring legacy.
Compensation shall be competitive with other San Francisco high schools. For exceptional candidates with housing needs, we may be able to offer a form of housing assistance in close proximity to the Nativity campus (partially subsidized flat, a location-dependent housing stipend, or housing available in our former convent).
About Nativity
Nativity was formed in November of 2022 as a result of the community’s desire for a Classical Catholic high school for the students of Stella Maris and other Catholic families in the city. Class sizes are small (20 maximum per classroom), and affordable tuition makes the school accessible to a wide range of income levels. Nativity’s board of directors comprises five optimistic and grateful people who embody a “working board” mentality in support of the school and its students. Nativity is an independent Catholic school formally recognized and supported by the Archdiocese of San Francisco. It offers a student experience that is unique to the area. While classical in its foundations, Nativity also devotes larger-than-average class time to Mathematics, creating a holistic and academically rigorous environment.
