Job Description
Marist High School, a Catholic co-ed school located on the southside of Chicago, is seeking a full-time teacher in the area of Religious Studies for the 2025-2026 academic year.

Minimum Requirements
Commitment to the Marist Brothers’ principles as set forth in Marist’s mission statement
A current Illinois Professional Educator’s License (PEL) is preferred.
Relevant experience in Religious Studies instruction is preferred.
Bachelor’s Degree required in Religious Studies or related field; Master’s Degree preferred

Ability to establish and maintain strong interpersonal relationships with students, parents, faculty, and administrators
Effective collaboration skills
Proficient in Microsoft Word and Google Suite
Excellent Verbal and Written Communications Skills
Strong Organizational Skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Demonstrated ability to plan and organize daily lessons and tasks
Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
A commitment to incorporating equity and belonging in practices and curriculum.
Essential Responsibilities
Administer a Religion curriculum consistent with department goals and objectives.
Design formative faith-filled opportunities for students, including but not limited to prayer services in the classroom and chapel, daily class prayer, participation in Mass and the sacrament of reconciliation.
Build positive relationships and rapport with students.
Knowledge of a wide range of religious studies content, including ecclesiology, sacramental theology, Hebrew and Christian scriptures, Catholic social teaching, and Christology.
Prior experience with adolescents and an understanding of adolescent faith development.
Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning and progress. Modify instructional methods to address student needs. Conduct individual and small group instruction.
Ensure that student conduct conforms to the school's standards and policies. Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs.
Coordinate with other professional staff members and participate in faculty meetings and committees.
Collaborate with colleagues on a course team to provide a common curricular experience for the students.
Organize and maintain a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement, and attendance.
