St. John’s Episcopal School in Olney, Maryland, is seeking a full-time Coordinator for the Learning Center (TLC) for the 2024-25 school year.
St. John’s is distinguished as a successful Preschool- Grade 8 school with a challenging academic program. Our school is committed to educating each student while nurturing, supporting, and encouraging them to be confident independent thinkers and learners. By 8th grade, our graduates are exceptionally prepared for high school and as contributing members of their community and the world around them.
Summary Description:
The Learning Center (TLC) Coordinator works with a high level of independence and professional discretion under a designated school administrator.
This individual serves as a teacher, mentor, and specialist in math, reading, writing, and other content areas, providing small group, in-class, pull-out, and 1-1 student support during the school day and before and/or after school when needed.
This individual works with classroom teachers and support staff in planning for specific student learning outcomes. These outcomes are based on assessed needs of individual students and on data and information used for determining each student’s current knowledge and skill level, establishing student learning goals, and assessing student progress. The assessment of student needs includes the use of approved assessment tools and strategies in addition to the Coordinator’s own professional practice.
The Learning Center Coordinator is responsible for identifying, developing, and applying assessment and research-based instructional intervention strategies designed to improve student learning in specific areas, as well as enhancing each student’s readiness to learn.
Specific responsibilities include the following:
● Managing TLC information, including confidential files, evaluations, and running documentation of students with diagnosed learning challenges.
● Working with individual students and families to discuss strategies and set goals around learning issues.
● Keeping informed and up to date about learning trends and best practices.
● Coordinate and supervise standardized testing for students with diagnosed learning disabilities.
● Developing academic support programs.
● Collaborating and supporting faculty and staff in support of implementing accommodations.
The successful candidate must:
● Possess strong oral, written, communication, and presentation skills
● Be a positive, optimistic individual and a skilled collaborator with adults and students, capable of gaining the confidence of teachers, students, parents, and others in the learning community
● Be able to plan and provide developmentally appropriate learning experiences for preschool through grade 8 students that are conducive to their intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development
● Be skillful in utilizing technology to aid instruction, assessment, and learning
● Be committed to professional learning and engage in professional growth opportunities
● Participate fully in the life of the school, in terms of curricular work, and in community activities and functions.
● Be proficient with Google Classroom and assistive technologies

Minimum Requirements:
Education: Undergraduate degree in education or related field. Master’s degree preferred; Special Education preferred.

Years of Experience: 3 - 5 years full-time teaching experience; supervisory experience preferred
