The school offers a coed program for young children at the Barat Center for Early Childhood Education and then an all-girls experience from K-12 on our 110-acre campus in Greenwich, Connecticut. We are proudly part of the Network of Sacred Heart Schools.

We are currently seeking a Lower School Theology Teacher and Campus Minister to join in the vision of our Theology Department for the 2025-2026 school year.  

Position: Lower School Theology Teacher and Campus Minister
Reports to: Head of Lower School
FLSA Status: Exempt 

Job Summary

The Lower School Theology Teacher and Campus Minister is responsible for providing a stimulating and developmentally appropriate educational environment in a way that is in accordance with the Goals and Criteria of a Sacred Heart education and the philosophy that implements it.  This philosophy includes providing children opportunities to develop spiritual, cognitive, social, emotional, and physical skills with a particular attention to Goal One: A personal and active faith in God. This position also serves as Lower School Campus Minister, which includes leading or assisting with liturgical celebrations, chapels, and retreats.
 
Essential Responsibilities

Teach all Lower School Theology Classes from  Preschool (the Barat Center) through Grade 4

Deliver curriculum on Catholic teachings, including scripture, the sacraments, and prayer.

Contribute to the development of religious education curriculum that is relevant and engaging for young learners.

Nurture students’ spiritual growth in alignment with Goal I of a Sacred Heart education – a personal and active faith in God.

Collaborate with colleagues across disciplines.

Exhibit a genuine passion for and command of the subject matter.

Experience and demonstrate success in implementing a scaffolded, organized, inquiry-based, student-centered instructional approach.

Design instruction that encourages students to think and write critically, to ask questions, and to reason creatively.

Support all learners through diverse strategies and approaches in a caring classroom environment where students learn and collaborate positively with one another. 

Develop formative and summative assessments that create opportunity for differentiated approaches.

Support students, specialists, parents, and families of all faith traditions. 

Twice a year, write reports on each student’s academic progress, social growth, and learning needs, and hold meetings with parents as necessary.

Attend division and departmental meetings, and assigned non-instructional duties (i.e. lunch, recess, car dismissal).

Campus Ministry Responsibilities 

Plan and lead Lower School chapels, prayer services, and retreats.

Collaborate with the Upper School and Middle School Campus Ministers to assist with the All School Liturgies throughout the year.

Plan and execute First Reconciliation, the First Communion Retreat, and First Holy Communion.

 
All Lower School Teachers are expected to:

Assume serious collaborative responsibility for the educational environment of the School by conducting themselves at all times in a responsible, ethical, and professional manner. 

Be available one week before the opening of School to attend teachers’ meetings, etc., and to be available one week after the Upper School’s graduation to attend teachers’ meetings and complete end-of-year duties. 

Participate fully in regular school programs, e.g., committees, assemblies, field trips, etc. 

Assume responsibilities as assigned for the supervision of students, including at times of early dismissal due to inclement weather.

Assist at School functions designated by the Head of School as necessary for the operation of the School, e.g., Back-to-School Night, Open House, Parent/Teacher Conferences, etc.
(To note: These duties may sometimes extend beyond the normal hours for school.)

Maintain high standards for his/her ongoing professional development.

Use technology effectively as part of classroom instruction. 

 Qualifications

A graduate degree in Theology or Religious Studies. 

Experience teaching Theology at the Lower School level

A strong belief in all-girls education as well as a commitment to the development of the whole child. 

Successful candidates will be collaborative, innovative, and student-centered.

The applicant must be a practicing Catholic in good standing in order to be eligible to apply for this position.
