Job Title: Teacher: Grade Level Team Member & ELA Teacher

The San Miguel School Chicago teacher is responsible for educating our students by word and example according to the Mission, Vision, and Philosophy of San Miguel School. It is the teacher who motivates, encourages, and inspires students to excel in all their endeavors and who sets goals and expectations that challenge students to meet and expand their potential. The success of each student hinges on the success and vigilance of the teacher. There are no more significant relationships in the school than those between teachers and students.

Accountability:

The teacher is hired by the principal of San Miguel School and is immediately accountable to the assistant principal for the academic, social, physical, and spiritual development of their students.

General Responsibilities:

Work collaboratively as a member of a grade-level team, and teach mutually agreed upon individual courses and take lead on shared team responsibilities such as Reading, Enrichment, Lunch/Recess, and Homeroom

Provide instruction in the content course ELA for 7th and 8th grade students while maintaining a written record of yearlong plans, unit plans, and daily lesson plans based on standards based instruction

Implement the G Suite for Education and Google Classroom in the classroom using Chromebooks

Adhere to and support all school policies as set forth in the Faculty and Staff Handbook, Parent-Student Handbook, and Crisis and Emergency Management Plan including regular evaluation and reporting on student academic progress

Work with grade level teaching team to plan and chaperone grade-level field trips and off-campus learning experiences, and be willing to drive school vehicles for field trips and games

Attend and actively participate in all orientations, staff meetings, professional development in-service opportunities, grade-level team meetings, parent meetings, parent-teacher-student conferences

Engage in personal professional goal-setting and evaluation
participate in teacher mentoring including formal and informal classroom observations and processing

Responsibilities and supervision duties as assigned, including but not limited to: substitute teaching, lunch duty, hallway/stairwell/parking lot supervision, and prayer leadership

Implement a classroom management plan as a grade-level team that includes agreed upon schedules, procedures, and BIST practices

Be guided by a developing understanding of the Lasallian tradition, of his/her role as a vocation, which necessitates a willingness to engage in professional growth, spiritual reflection, and Lasallian formation

A pledge to engage in a caring, responsible, and loving human relationship with each student entrusted to his/her care, looking upon each student as a younger brother or sister
a commitment to support Catholic teaching, worship, spirituality, and building Christian community
patience, generosity, gentleness, humility, and a healthy sense of humor

Other duties as assigned by the principal

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree
Faith’s Law, Background Check, Mandated Reporter, & Virtus compliant
Openness to working in a faith-based environment with a high level of mission commitment
Highly developed oral and written communication skills
Ability to build relationships effectively and professionally with students, families, and staff
Ability to maintain a safe and studious classroom environment

Preferred:
Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field
Illinois teaching certification
Experience with Chromebooks, G Suite for Education, and Zoom
Bilingual English and Spanish
