POSITION OVERVIEW
St. Alphonsus Parish School is seeking a passionate and dedicated Middle School Science Teacher for the 2025-2026 school year. The ideal candidate will bring enthusiasm for science education and a commitment to forming young minds and hearts in the Catholic faith. Our teachers foster academic excellence and character development, guiding students spiritually, intellectually, and socially.
In addition to teaching middle school science, the ideal candidate would be willing and able to teach a middle school religion class. This position also includes serving as a homeroom teacher for either 5th/6th grade boys or 5th/6th grade girls.
St. Alphonsus is the only Catholic school in Seattle offering a single-sex educational experience in middle school. Beginning in 7th grade, all academic classes are structured into separate boys’ and girls’ cohorts, while in 5th and 6th grades, only homeroom and religion classes follow this model.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree in education, science, or a related field (required)
• Practicing Catholic (preferred)
• Experience teaching middle school science (preferred)
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The ideal candidate will:
• Demonstrate expertise in teaching science across grades 5-8
• Design and implement hands-on, inquiry-based science lessons that engage students
• Integrate STEM practices, the scientific method, and problem-solving skills into instruction
• Incorporate technology and lab-based experiments to enhance learning
• Connect science concepts to real-world applications and Catholic teaching on stewardship
• Promote critical thinking, data analysis, and scientific literacy
• Establish a structured, engaging, and nurturing classroom environment
• Foster a classroom culture of respect, accountability, and virtue-building
• Utilize effective instructional strategies to support diverse learning styles
• Implement varied assessment techniques to monitor student growth
• Communicate effectively and maintain positive partnerships with parents
• Exhibit strong organizational and classroom management skills
• Be a collaborative and supportive team member
• Show enthusiasm for working with middle school students and their unique developmental needs
• Engage in the school community beyond the classroom (e.g., parish activities, coaching, club moderation)
• Embrace Catholic education as a mission-driven vocation
SALARY
The range for this position is $55,000 - $79,200. Any offered salary is determined based on internal equity, internal salary ranges, market data, applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, degrees, and certifications.
