Position Summary
The Paraprofessional provides direct supervision of students and school facilities while supporting the Dean of Students in maintaining a safe, orderly, and respectful learning environment. This position reinforces school policies, promotes positive student behavior, and assists with campus supervision throughout the school day. The Paraprofessional plays an important role in fostering a culture that reflects the mission and expectations of Saint Ignatius College Prep.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise students throughout the building, including classrooms, hallways, restrooms, and common areas.
Assist the Deans and faculty with enforcing school rules and assign detention in accordance with school policy when appropriate.
Enforce schoolwide expectations, including dress code, student identification/lanyards, food and drink policies, and appropriate student conduct.
Maintain appropriate decorum by monitoring noise levels, student behavior, device usage, and cleanliness of shared spaces.
Manage student dining hall cleaning assignments associated with detention.
Ensure students observe silence during morning and afternoon prayer.
Supervise after-school detention as assigned.
Assist with overall campus safety and security as directed by the Deans.
Maintain consistent communication with the Deans throughout the school day.
Other duties as assigned.
Scope and Impact
This position has a direct impact on student safety, behavior, and the overall school environment. The Paraprofessional exercises independent judgment in supervising students and addressing routine disciplinary concerns while collaborating closely with administrators and faculty. The role does not have budgetary responsibility.
Qualifications
Qualifications – Required
Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree (or equivalent).
Experience working with adolescents in an educational or youth-focused environment.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
Qualifications – Preferred
Experience in a secondary school environment and familiarity with restorative discipline practices.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with students, faculty, staff, and families.
Ability to exercise sound judgment and remain calm in challenging situations.
Strong observation, organization, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work collaboratively while maintaining appropriate authority and professionalism.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
This position requires frequent walking, standing, and movement throughout the school campus. The employee must be able to supervise students indoors and outdoors and occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds.
Compensation and Schedule
Hourly Rate: $17.05-$18.00 per hour
10-month, full-time, non-exempt position
