Principal Opening:
Father John V. Doyle School (FJVD), a co-educational Pre-K – Grade 8 school in Coventry RI, seeks a
mission-enthusiastic Principal to serve and lead the school community on July 1, 2025. The right
candidate is a disciple of Jesus Christ who can be a dynamic, caring, empathetic, and faith-filled
administrator. Additionally, he/she is capable of working collaboratively with the Pastor, school
leadership team, and a talented faculty to continue building upon the Parish’s mission of Catholic
education.
FJVD is a NEASC accredited school with 228 students enrolled. Over the past seven years, our school
has increased enrollment by 59%, and we currently are blessed with a waiting list in Kindergarten for
the next 3 years. The Parish which runs FJVD, Ss. John and Paul, is the largest in the Diocese, with
4200 registered parishioners, and the School enjoys a very close relationship with the Parish. The future
Principal will report directly to and enjoy the partnership of a deeply supportive Pastor of the Parish who
works closely as spiritual leader and collaborator in areas of administration, communications and major
decisions. Commensurate with experience, we are able to offer a highly competitive salary for a Catholic
Primary School Principal in our Diocese.
The Principal will have a passion for the mission of the Roman Catholic Church to Live the Word of
God. In doing so, the Principal will support the Pastor, Superintendent and Bishop’s vision and
direction for Catholic education in the Diocese of Providence.
General Description:
Directly responsible for the day to day operations of the spiritual, educational, and extra-curricular
programs of the school. The Principal works in collaboration with the school leadership team to oversee
all institutional and operational programs of the school.
Job Responsibilities:
Articulates (internally and externally) the school philosophy and mission; develops the life of the school
as a Catholic community
Exerts leadership in creating a culture of mutual respect among faculty and staff
Assists Pastor in the hiring , assignment, support, and, if necessary, dismissal of all faculty, coaches and
certain functional supervisors
Holds final responsibility for the evaluation of all faculty, coaches and certain functional supervisors
Promotes/encourages faculty and staff development; plans content for all professional development days
Communicates regularly with staff, families, and stakeholders; publishes and emails weekly school
newsletter for all school parents and stakeholders, as well as, weekly Faculty FYI
Supervises all Catholic Athletic League teams in accordance with appropriate guidelines and regulations
Administers the federal grant programs
Works with the Pastor, Parish Business Manager and Parish Finance Committee in setting and
appropriately managing the annual operating budget for the school in line with Diocesan policies
Completes all reports required of the school
Leads and sets vision and standards for the academic programs of the school
Maintains final authority for all academic policies, in conjunction with the Diocesan Catholic Schools
Office
Coordinates and publishes the student program of studies for all grades and in conjunction with the
Diocesan Catholic Schools Office has final approval of any course/curriculum change
Maintains school accreditation and is responsible to all reporting through accreditation body.

Creates master schedule of classes
Prepares official school calendar and report card calendar
Supervises the grading system of the school
Oversees all Student Information Systems and databases used in the school
Oversees school webpage/social media and monitors faculty compliance/usage
Assists in resolution of academic conflicts between teacher/student, student/teacher, parent/teacher, and
other stakeholders
Student Life
Maintains responsibility for the health and safety of all students
Maintains accurate student records
Oversees Admission Committee
Assumes final responsibility for the selection of all students, and (after consultation with the Pastor and
Catholic Schools Office) for the dismissal of all students
Consults with parents of students making poor academic progress
Assists the leadership team with disciplinary matters as needed
Community Relations
Represents school in its dealing with other schools and agencies
Actively assists Pastor and leadership team with recruitment/outreach
Assists Pastor and leadership team with major gifts, grant-writing proposals, as needed
Maintains an active presence at school events
Skills, Knowledge, Abilities
Holds a deep commitment to Catholic intellectual tradition, the magisterium of the Church, and the
purposes of Catholic education.
Strong understanding of teaching and learning that supports educational excellence
Demonstrated leadership ability
Excellent communication skills
Strong organizational skills
Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English fluently.
Must pass a nationwide criminal record check
Education, Training, and/or Experience
Must be an intentional Catholic disciple of Jesus Christ who is in good standing with the Church and be
personally invested in the formation of Catholic youth
The preferred candidate will have earned a graduate degree in education, school administration, Catholic
school leadership, theology or ministry
Minimum of five years demonstrated experience in leadership positions, preferably in Catholic schools
or organizations
