Principal
St. Basil Catholic School in South Haven is seeking an informed, committed Catholic administrator to serve as full-time Principal for its preschool through eight grade school on the bluff overlooking Lake Michigan.

General summary
The principal of St. Basil Catholic school provides leadership in the development and the direction of a rigorous and effective instructional program within a supportive learning environment that achieves diocesan and parish objectives.

The principal is responsible for the complete operation of the school, including all approved functions and services, and may at times be required to teach a small portion of the curriculum.

The principal supports a collaborative relationship between the school and the parish, including attendance at regular meetings of the Parish Staff and Finance Council.

The principal implements diocesan and parish policies and is accountable to the Pastor and Superintendent of Schools, while maintaining a collaborative relationship with the LCAB (Advisory Board).

Essential duties and responsibilities

Maintain St. Basil Catholic school as an apostolate of the parish
Ensure and maintain the Catholic identity of the school
Provide opportunities which foster the spiritual growth of faculty, students, and other members of the school community
Meet with parish ministry team regularly
Serve as executive officer and participate in meetings of the LCAB
Prepare and present an annual state of the school report to the LCAB

Meet regularly for consultation with LCAB; demonstrate constructive listening relationship with this advisory group.

Provide leadership and instruction and curriculum development.
Plan and prepare a school instruction program to achieve well-defined goals and instructional needs, while ensuring high levels of student achievement
Encourage instructional approaches that meet the various needs and abilities of the students
Encourage effective use of available technologies in the learning environment
Teach a minimal portion of curriculum as needed.

Provide leadership for professional growth
Continue professional development of self
Facilitate professional development of staff by initiating, providing, and participating in staff meetings, curriculum, in-service days, as well as educational and cultural conferences
Select, supervised, evaluate staff
Continuously work with staff to achieve consistently high standards of performance
Develop communicate and implement a plan of evaluation for all staff members
Submit written assessments of staff to the superintendent of schools

Provide leadership in school and community relations
Interpret diocesan and parish educational policy to the staff community
Keep the parish community informed about the school programs and activities
Ensure that the school website is kept up-to-date throughout the year with relevant information
Provide weekly content for the parish bulletin, in a mix of personal and assigned writing

Manage student activities.
Work for staff to develop and encourage broad student participation in the total school program including art, music, field trips, and athletic activities.
Ensure consistency in application of discipline policy
Provide crisis intervention as needed
Seek to acquaint individuals with appropriate agencies for resolution of problems

Assure effective and relevant use a physical resources
Supervise maintenance of the school building and grounds
Work with local law enforcement to ensure the safety and security of the facility students and staff

Plan the budget and manage funds assigned to the school
Participate in planning the school budget and dialogue with Pastor, Parish Business Manager, LCAB, and staff, considering both immediate and long-term needs
Monitor School budget in collaboration with Parish Business Manager, with regular reporting to the LCAB and staff.

The principal shall also perform other duties as assigned by Superintendent Schools or the Pastor

Required qualifications

Education:
Bachelor of arts degree education related field
Master of arts in a related field or the ability to attain within three years preferred

Experience
Minimum three years’ teaching experience
Administration experience, Preferred
Experience with a language immersion program preferred
