Stone Ridge is seeking a Long-Term Substitute Teacher for Upper School English to cover classes from mid-March through the end of May. 

Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart, a member of the international Network of Sacred Heart Schools, is a Catholic, independent college preparatory school for girls, Grades 1-12, with a co-educational Early Childhood Program, Pre-Kindergarten, and Kindergarten in Bethesda, Maryland. The Upper School English Long-Term Substitute Teacher is responsible for
* teaching Upper School English in alignment with the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart Education.
* teaching four sections of English: one section of 9th grade Introduction to Literature & Composition, two sections of 12th grade AP English Literature & Composition, and one section of a 12th grade English Elective on Detective Fiction.
* working closely with colleagues in the English Department and throughout the Upper School and creating and updating plans for content, quality, and continuity of curriculum.
* actively planning with the full-time classroom teacher in advance of the leave and coordinating throughout the spring with English Department colleagues also teaching sections of these courses.
* collaborating with Learning Strategists and Educational Technologists to develop strategies to support all students, and working with the Counseling staff in supporting social-emotional programming.
* attending all faculty and employee meetings, fulfill other faculty duties, and maintain good communication with families about student progress.

Position requirements:
* A Bachelor's degree in a related field, a Master's degree is preferred.
* A strong commitment to students and the ability to motivate and educate in an engaging manner.
* A demonstrated and thorough knowledge of the subject area. 
* A collaborative and collegial spirt. 
* Familiarity with Understanding by Design, the School's pedagogical approach to instruction. 
* Strong writing and communication skills, a capacity for organization and follow-through, and flexibility.
