OVERVIEW
St. Alphonsus School is seeking a passionate and dedicated 7th/8th Grade Humanities Teacher for the 2025-2026 school year. The ideal candidate will bring enthusiasm for English, social studies (including Washington State History), and religion, along with a commitment to forming young men in character and faith. Our teachers guide students spiritually, intellectually, and socially, fostering both academic excellence and virtue.
This position includes serving as the 7th/8th boys’ homeroom teacher. The teacher should view this role not just as a job, but as a calling to mentor boys and help them grow into men of integrity, faith, and leadership. Strong classroom management skills, relational capacity, and a desire to create a structured yet engaging environment are essential.
St. Alphonsus is the only Catholic school in Seattle offering a single-sex educational experience in middle school. Beginning in 7th grade, all academic classes are structured into separate boys’ and girls’ cohorts, while in 5th and 6th grades, only homeroom and religion classes follow this model.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in education, English, social studies, history, or a related field (required)
- Practicing Catholic (preferred)
- Experience teaching middle school humanities subjects (preferred)
- Passion for working with middle schoolers, mentoring, and forming character
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The ideal candidate will:
- Teach English, social studies (including Washington State History), and religion to 7th/8th grade boys and girls
- Design and implement engaging, rigorous lessons that develop reading, writing, critical thinking, and historical analysis
- Integrate Catholic values and Church teachings throughout instruction
- Foster a classroom culture of respect, accountability, and virtue-building
- Model and mentor what it means to be a young man or woman of faith and character
- Establish firm yet supportive classroom discipline with clear expectations
- Build strong relationships with students and maintain open communication with parents
- Utilize effective instructional strategies and varied assessment techniques to support diverse learners
- Exhibit strong organizational skills and collaborate with other middle school faculty
- Engage in the life of the school community beyond the classroom (e.g., parish events, clubs, service projects)
- Embrace Catholic education as a mission-driven ministry
SALARY
The range for this position is $55,000-$79,200. Any offered salary is determined based on internal equity, internal salary ranges, market data, applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, degrees, and certifications.
