Job Description – Dean of School Culture

Title: Dean of School Culture
Reports to: Principal
Direct Reports: Teaching staff, support staff, teacher aids, extended day director, preschool director, lunch director.
Provides work direction to: Lunchroom and playground supervisors, Custodial and Maintenance Staff, Extended Day aids, Alumni/Advancement Coordinator and LADC staff.
Receives work direction from: Pastor, Principal, Dean of Academic Excellence, Business Administrator
FLSA: Exempt (Executive)
Hours: Full-time, 40+ hours per week for 10 months (Approximately August 15-June 15 annually)
Schedule: Primarily Monday-Friday, some weekend for parish/school events

Job Purpose: The Dean of School Culture is a new role created as part of a new school leadership model. This Dean oversees the daily operations, manages schedules, and provides support to students and teachers in immediate matters. The Dean is responsible for fostering and supporting a positive, joyful, and safe school culture, managing behavior incidences, and implementation of school culture related goals set forth by the leadership team. In addition, the Dean assists staff on goals, action plans, staff development and growth to improve teaching and learning; and supports staff in promoting holistic excellence, spiritual growth and leadership development for all students rooted in the values of our Catholic heritage.

Supports and advances the Mission, Vision, Beliefs, and Values of Annunciation Catholic School
Member of the Admin/Leadership Team
Provide direction and support to teachers, other staff members, and students regarding daily operation of the school.
Provide presence and assist parents with questions and concerns
Help create a productive environment where there is harmony, good moral and cooperative teamwork, monitor productivity and take corrective action as appropriate.
Assist and support the principal in developing and implementing policies and rules governing student life, conduct and behavior.
Evaluate and review student handbook in order to ensure a safe, conducive and positive learning environment for our students.
Resolve student behavior issues, communicating with parents as necessary, and inform principal.
Empower students to feel responsible and to take action.
Utilize restorative discipline best practices and techniques and provide training/support to others to utilize restorative practices
Strategize opportunities for improving teaching and learning
Provide opportunities for supporting ongoing professional development
Strive to strengthen the school community and culture
Plan and provide opportunities for staff reflection that lead to improved practices and long-term change
Oversee attendance working with school office staff to ensure attendance policies are enforced.
Organize parent/teacher conferences twice per year working with office staff
Coordinate student assemblies, speakers, field trips with teacher input
Ensure positive student climate and environment through collaboration of lead teachers and staff.
Establish internal and external relationships that enhance the quality of student life.
Collaborate with principal, learning specialist, teachers regarding daily schedule and individual classroom schedules.
Assist with calendar planning, recognizing conflicts and anticipate needs for work
Serve as administrative representative to the APO
Supervise arrival (foyer) and dismissal and afterschool programs/procedures
Provide support, supervision, and direction to teachers in their roles to assure proper day to day running of the school and classroom instruction.
Provide support to parent groups for school events during the school year
Promote student successes and accomplishments and submit information internally and externally for public relations of Annunciation School.
Collaborate with principal and lead teachers in development of master schedules for grade levels and middle school, including specialists.
Manage opportunities and suggestions for staff development
Collaborate with learning specialist for learning support services: including attendance at learning plan meetings, IEP meetings, and Title services meetings.
Assist teachers in following learning plans and attend learning plan meetings
Work with school counselors, learning specialist and district counselor to provide support services to students
Manage Title ll funding system working with office staff in conjunction with Minneapolis School district
Assist the principal and Dean of Academic Excellence with supervision of teachers including formal observations
Ensure appropriate planning for school liturgies and prayer services, collaborating with classroom teachers
Communicate and manage information flow to staff

QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s Degree in educational field, preferred
Principal certification, preferred
Administrative experience, preferred
Minimum five years teaching experience
Management style that follows Catholic teachings and encourages mutual respect, collaboration, communication and cooperation
Excellent interpersonal communication skills with educators, parents, and students
Excellent speaking and writing skills
Maintains confidentiality
Demonstrate knowledge of best practices related to school culture and restorative discipline
Show knowledge or training in Roman Catholic dogmas, doctrines and teachings.
Show knowledge or training in the psychology of children
Successfully complete the required background checks and Virtus training.
Working knowledge of the Archdiocesan Justice in Employment requirements

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Work 40+ hours per week.
Be available for evening sessions, longer work days and weekends when required.
Lift office and curriculum materials up to 20 lbs with proper technique.
