Bellesini Academy is an independent Catholic middle school dedicated to providing a quality scholarship education to students from limited financial means living in Lawrence. The mission of the school is to provide an academically challenging and highly structured environment that develops the potential for each student to succeed in competitive secondary schools and colleges. Bellesini Academy is a co-institutional school serving 120 students (60 boys and 60 girls). Students learn in single-sex classrooms and have opportunities throughout the day to work together.
Bellesini Academy utilizes a proven model of education that specifically addresses the needs of at-risk students who live below the poverty line. We provide small classes, a rigorous curriculum, after-school sports and clubs, supervised homework time, and a four-week summer program. These integrated components ensure that each student is prepared for entrance to a college-preparatory high school. Our students gain an average of two grade levels each year in language arts and math, and our graduating classes have been offered over $24 M in four-year scholarships to preparatory high schools.
Bellesini Academy is seeking a full-time English Language Arts teacher. Responsibilities include teaching two blocks of English Language Arts and one religion class.
Responsibilities include:
•Teach five periods a day;
•Assume a high level of personal responsibility for the progress of all students;
•Create academically rigorous lesson plans, materials, and assessments;
•Incorporate technology into lesson activities;
•Work as part of a school team by implementing school-wide systems, structures, and procedures;
•Participate in various aspects of the school culture, programs, duties, and staff meetings; and
•Maintain accurate records and grades for students using an online grade book program and document curriculum using an online mapping tool.
Professional teachers work from 7:30 am to 3:15 pm daily. Opportunities to work in the after-school and summer program are available for additional income.
