Primary Function (Purpose of Position): A DeLaSalle High School Physical Education Teacher will inspire and educate students in physical fitness, health, and wellness, while integrating Catholic values and teaching into the curriculum. The PE Teacher will also promote a positive and inclusive environment that encourages students to develop lifelong healthy habits.

Representative Responsibilities:

1. Instruction and Curriculum Development:
Plan and deliver engaging lessons that promote physical fitness, teamwork, sportsmanship, and healthy lifestyle choices.
Develop implement a comprehensive physical education curriculum for 9th-grade students, aligned with state standards and school policies.
Integrate Catholic values and teachings into the curriculum, fostering a holistic approach to student development.
2. Student Assessment and Progress Monitoring:
Assess students’ physical abilities, fitness levels, and skill development through various evaluation methods
Provide regular feedback and report on student progress to students, parents, and school administration.
Identify and address individual student needs, adapting instruction to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities.
3. Classroom Management and Safety:
Maintain a safe and orderly learning environment, ensuring the physical and emotional well-being of all students.
Enforce school policies and procedures related to student conduct and safety in the gymnasium, locker rooms, and outdoor facilities.
Monitor and maintain equipment and facilities, reporting any issues or hazards to the appropriate personnel.
4. Collaboration and Professional Development:
Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and parents to support student learning and development.
Participate in faculty meetings, professional development opportunities, and school events.
Stay current with best practices in physical education, health, and wellness, incorporating new strategies and technologies into the classroom.
5. Extracurricular Activities:
Encourage student participation in extracurricular sports and fitness activities.
Assist in coaching school sports teams or organizing intramural programs as needed.
Support school-wide events and initiatives that promote physical activity and healthy living.
Qualifications:

BA in Physical Education, Kinesiology, or a related field.
Teaching certification.
Proven experience teaching physical education at the high school level, preferably with 9th-grade students.
Strong knowledge of physical fitness, sports, health, and wellness.
Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Commitment to the mission and values of Catholic education.
Ability to inspire and motivate students to achieve their personal best.
Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Physical Education or a related field.
Experience integrating technology into physical education instruction.
Background in coaching school sports teams or leading fitness programs.
Familiarity with adolescent development and effective classroom management techniques.

Manage multiple projects simultaneously with frequent interruptions.
Perform all duties in a manner that promotes the mission of DeLaSalle High School.
Attend all staff meetings as required.
Able to work 40+ hours a week or whatever is required – including occasional weekend and evening work.
Ability to lift and move using proper techniques up to and including 25 pounds.
