Second Week of Lent - Sunday, March 16th
Lord, on this Second Sunday of Lent, we bring to mind the creation of the sea, the earth, and the plants and trees that cover the earth. Water was gathered together to form the sea.
Let us consider the ways that we are called to gather together with our fellow human beings, and all of creation, as we walk in hope towards Easter. May we strive to create spaces of gathering that draw in, not only those we agree with, but the entirety of God’s creation which He named as “good.” Then we will be able to echo the words of the Gospel “Master, it is good that we are here.”
We pray that our drawing together may bear fruit, just as the trees created on this third day of the universe bear fruit. Fruits of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control – the fruits of Your Holy Spirit – that our world so desperately needs. Gift us with an openness to receiving the fruitfulness of others with whom we are gathered and to contribute our own fruitfulness to those who are in need of Your Spirit, Lord.
We make this prayer through Christ, our Lord. Amen.
