PIE’s Online Learning Modules (Updated 2024) 

PIE's next quarterly module registration will be on January 1st, 2025. PIE must have your request and payment by December 10, 2024, to join.

The Program for Inclusive Education presents an updated series of learning modules addressing introductory topics on serving the needs of all students in Catholic schools. Each module: 

  • Includes one hour of content, integrates research, videos, and evidence-based practices to support students with disabilities and struggling learners. 
  • Is interactive and self-paced.
  • Provides opportunities for self-reflection and continued discussion with others in your school.
  • Provides a virtual exploration of inclusion topics with experts in the field.

All Are Welcome: Our Call to Serve - Overview Catholic schools’ call to serve all learners, specifically related to students with different abilities.

Practices to Support All Learners: High Leverage vs. Evidence-Based - Examine high-leverage and evidence-based practices and how integrating these practices into classrooms promotes student success.

Sites for Inclusion: Practices that Work - Explore resources and websites of research-based practices for successful classroom implementation.

Inclusion Works: Benefits for All - Explore inclusion in Catholic schools and the academic, behavioral, and social benefits for every student.

Defining Variability: The Edges of Catholic Classrooms - Overview of student academic, behavioral, executive functioning, and social-emotional variability and the potential barriers to learning. 

UDL: It’s Principled - Examine Universal Design for Learning’s defining principles while considering student learning needs.

Understanding the ABCs of Behavior - Explore antecedents (A), behaviors (B), and consequences (C) in the behavioral chain and how the ABCs impact student behavior.

Planning for the Edges with UDL - Consider Universal Design for Learning (UDL) to successfully plan lessons that meet the needs of all learners.

Accommodations, Modifications, Interventions…Oh My! - Review similarities and differences among accommodations, modifications, and interventions and how these concepts impact student learning.

 

Coming April 1st

MTSS: Support for All - Consider a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) from a whole-child perspective as a means to ensure student success.

Individualized Plans: Meeting Student Needs - Examine the components of the Individualized Catholic Education Plans (ICEP) and how these plans can meet students’ unique needs.

From Inclusion to Belonging - Explore the critical concept of belonging as it relates to inclusive education for all students.

  • Modules are delivered through the Canvas Catalog learning platform. 
  • The cost for each module is $100 per educator. 
  • Schools enrolling 10 or more educators will receive a 10% discount. 
  • Canvas will generate completion certificates upon completion of all required activities in each module. If you need Continuing Education Units (CEUs), please contact PIE at agiroux1@nd.edu for formal documentation.

All BonFIRE and PIE modules open and close quarterly. Participants are expected to complete the content within three months. If a participant wants additional time, he/she will need to re-enroll in the next quarter and will be charged the module fee again.

  1. Quarters are defined as:
    1. January 1st through March 31st
    2. April 1st through June 30th
    3. July 1st through September 30th
    4. October 1st through December 31st

Enrollment occurs one time a quarter-at the beginning of the quarter. All participants must sign up and payment received (if on the PIE site) before the enrollment deadline listed below. Any participant who does not meet the enrollment deadline must re-register for the next quarter.

  1. Enrollment deadlines are as follow:
    1. Quarter 1: December 10th (given the holiday)
    2. Quarter 2: March 15th
    3. Quarter 3: June 15th
    4. Quarter 4: September 15th
