What is the one thing that you love most about your ACE school? Why?

I love how accepting and supportive the SCS family is of one another. As a first-year teacher, I truly felt welcomed into the community. The faculty, staff, and parents at SCS are all willing to go our of their way to help one another, no matter the circumstances.

If you had to pick one word to describe your ACE experience thus far, what would it be? Why?

Enlightening! Each day brings something new, both in and out of the classroom, and I find myself constantly learning from my students, my school, and the greater Charleston community. Whether it is discovering new ways to teach, hearing my students' perspectives, or engaging with the people around me, I grow a little more each day. This experience has opened my eyes to the deep joy, challenges, and beauty of Catholic education.

What is one of your favorite memories from your first year in ACE Teaching Fellows?

During the papal conclave, my school set up a TV with a livestream of the Vatican in the main hall, and everyone gathered around when we saw the white smoke. It was so special to be able to celebrate our new pope as a school community.

What is one of your favorite memories from your first year in ACE Teaching Fellows?

I led a group of ten students to the South Carolina Science Olympiad state tournament, where we came in seventh place and won the sportsmanship award despite having only 2/3 of a full team. As we began the bus ride home, my Olympians were already preparing for next year's tournament. Conversation flowed from our Bungee Drop victory to pocket protectors, to the beauties of a well-organized spreadsheet, and to stoic philosophy. These students' work ethic--matched with an insatiable search for knowledge--inspires me every day.
