Life in the City

Our Cleveland community is vibrant and full of life, nestled along the southern shore of Lake Erie. Living by the lake gives us the chance to enjoy beautiful waterfront views and peaceful moments by the water. We love exploring the city’s natural beauty through its many metroparks, trails, and green spaces that wind through forests, rivers, and even urban neighborhoods. Cleveland is also rich in culture and history, and we enjoy spending time downtown visiting places like Little Italy, with its authentic food and local art, as well as museums, sports events, and other unique attractions. Whether we’re hiking, biking, enjoying the arts, or grabbing a bite to eat, Cleveland offers something special for everyone in our community.

Why did you say "yes" to serving as a Catholic school educator through ACE Teaching Fellows?

I said 'yes' because I believe Catholic education is deeply committed to nurturing the whole person. I hope to play a role in guiding young people as they grow into the fullest version of themselves—the individuals God intends them to become.

What is the one thing that you love most about your ACE school? Why?

One of the things I love most about Cleveland Central Catholic is the welcoming, loving community among the faculty, administration, and staff. Though I was a new face, I never doubted my place as a member of the CCC community. This supportive environment was instrumental in helping me get through my first year of teaching, and I am excited to return in the fall!

If you had to pick one word to describe your ACE experience thus far, what would it be? Why?

If I had to choose one word to describe my ACE experience so far, it would be rewarding. The work is undoubtedly challenging, but it carries a deep sense of purpose. This year has given me a confidence I’m not sure I would have found elsewhere, and I’m excited to continue growing—both personally and professionally—as I keep learning from the students who challenge and inspire me every day.

What is the one thing that you love most about your ACE school? Why?

My favorite thing about my ACE school is power hour. Power hour is how we start every morning urgently, celebrating the academic accomplishments of our students.

What are you most looking forward to most as an ACE teacher this year?

As an ACE teacher this year, I am most looking forward to learning the comfort of being uncomfortable. I'll be stepping into a completely new city, surrounded by new people, and stepping into my very own classroom. While this is overwhelming, I know that I will grow so much through it-- it will be challenging, draining, and out of my comfort zone, but I'm comfortable knowing that I won't be doing this alone. The support of my community and the formation from ACE will makes this journey unmatched and transformative, personally, professionally, and spiritually.

What is one of your favorite memories from your first year in ACE Teaching Fellows?

One of my favorite memories has been the excitement built up around reading in my classroom. A big goal for myself this year was to help foster a love of reading in my classroom by clearly expressing my own emotions while reading aloud to the class. We have read some fascinating novels in 4th and 5th grade this year, and my students amaze me every time with their excited reactions and predictions surrounding the literature we read and study together.
