Where We Serve: Denver

Denver

We live in Denver: four pro sports teams, less than an hour from the slopes, 300+ sunny days a year, and we are close to Boulder. January weather could be 60 degrees one day or snowing the next. We’re not too close to any other ACE communities, but in the words of John Staud, “So is Hawaii but who complains about paradise!”

How do you hope to grow through your experience over the next two years?

I hope to grow as a teacher and as a member of the communities in which I will live. I look forward to growing in the virtue of selfless giving that is such an essential part of Christian life.

What is the most meaningful lesson that you have already learned during your ACE experience?

As teachers, we all have the same goal; to teach the students to the very best of our abilities, but we do not all have the same relationships with our students. As long as we are reaching that goal it is okay, in fact its great, that we take different routes to get there.

Why did you say "yes" to serving children in Catholic schools through ACE?

I said yes to ACE because I knew it would give me a chance to work closely with children and to help them build a better future. One thing I am really looking forward to is seeing students have 'aha!' moments.

What is the most meaningful lesson that you have already learned during your ACE experience?

The world is filled with diversity and no two people are exactly alike. In order to communicate the saving grace of Christ we must accept and embrace this diversity as a way of entering into a deeper intimacy with our fellow brothers and sisters.

Why did you say "yes" to serving children in Catholic schools through ACE?

I was not exposed to the mission of Catholic schools until coming to the University of Notre Dame for undergraduate school. While there, I fell in love with the idea of educating the whole person: mind, body, and spirit. I hope to continue this mission by serving children in Catholic schools through ACE.
