Life in the City

With its deep roots in American history and unmistakable Philly grit, the City of Brotherly Love offers ACE Teachers a placement full of heart, hustle, and hoagies. There ACErs are teaching in a city where murals line the streets, history echoes around every corner, and sports aren't just entertainment—they're a way of life.

What is one of your favorite memories from your first year in ACE Teaching Fellows?

One of my favorite memories this year was going on a walking tour of Philadelphia with my students.  Visiting places like Independence Hall and the Betsy Ross House was a great way for students to see the rich history of their city, and I loved getting to immerse myself in this history alongside them.

What is the one thing that you love most about your ACE school? Why?

I think I cherish the all boy camaraderie that all the boys in my school possess. Roman Catholic is the first all boys Catholic school in Philadelphia, and we try to uphold all of the traditions that took place from 1890! The boys love the experience and it’s great to be part of something so strong.

How do you hope to grow in your experience as an ACE Teacher?

I hope to really grow as a teacher by getting great experience in summer practicum as well as my community placement as a full time classroom teacher. It will also be great to learn from the great teachers and support through ACE at ND.

What is the one thing that you love most about your ACE school? Why?

The school gave me the opportunity to run the science department’s demonstrations for visiting 7th graders, which was a great opportunity to share the love of science with students younger than my own.
