Where We Serve: St. Petersburg

St. Petersburg

St. Petersburg is a wonderful place to live and teach. In addition to hosting the ACE Teaching Fellows program, this community welcomes several other arms of ACE, including ACE Academies. In fact, one could say that the amount of ACE activity in St. Petersburg makes it feel like Notre Dame away from home. Our community lives in Pinellas Park on a peninsula between the Tampa Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. We are a short drive from the city of Tampa and several great beaches.

  • "I believe community life will help me in my first year of teaching by giving me pillars -- in the form of my community members -- to lean on. Together, we can lean on one another for emotional, professional and spiritual support."

  • "In ACE St. Pete, we committed to community meal Sunday – Thursday night of each week. While this may seem overwhelming to some, this was a great time set aside to be in intentional community, refresh and relax, support, and share stories with one another. Together we realized that teaching and Christian life is not done in isolation!"

  • "As an oldest child, I never had any siblings to look up to as I was growing up. My seven housemates this year were my siblings, cheering me on during my triumphs and picking me up during my sorrows. They provided me with endless laughs, meals, and distractions, and were always a source of guidance and inspiration throughout this crazy year. "

    Erin Celeste  | ACE 22

Math Teacher at St. Petersburg Catholic High School

BA in Music Theory and Mathematics, University of Notre Dame

  • " I think I saw God most strongly on the night before December retreat started. All of these teachers who hadn't seen each other in months - since before we'd started teaching - were bumping into each other. There were constant exclamations of joy and relief - we were there, we were together, we'd done it. I saw God in a hundred teachers taking a moment to breathe in Texas."

BA in Government and History, Georgetown University

    Originally from Gaithersburg, MD

  • "My faith has always been an integral part of my life. By turning to God in prayer, I am strengthened to face any challenge that comes my way. I hope to be a witness to my faith through my perseverance and trust in God. "

  • "What was special about living in my community was watching everyone grow over the course of the year. We all learned and experienced a lot together and we grew closer because of it. It was incredible to watch myself and my community members go from being strangers to the best of friends. "

    Bobby Sylvester  | ACE 22

  • "While at a Catholic school, I am able to incorporate faith, hope, and love in my classes, and can relate that to the subject. Christianity is not just a subject you learn 50 minutes a day, but a love for others that shapes who you are. We are students of Christ before all else. "
