Life in the City

Baltimore is a city full of character, creativity, and heart! Here, historic charm blends seamlessly with a thriving arts and culture scene. In vibrant neighborhoods like Hampden and Fells Point, cobblestone streets, colorful murals, and cozy cafés showcase the city's unique flair. The Inner Harbor offers waterfront views and some of the best seafood around. Baltimore thrives on its community spirit and deep-rooted pride. With four distinct seasons, lively festivals, and a passionate sports scene (go Ravens), there’s always something to experience. Whether you're drawn to its history, waterfront, or arts scene, Baltimore is the place for you!

What is the one thing that you love most about your ACE school? Why?

One thing I love most about my ACE school is the sense of personality and life in the building. Every day feels different, and the students bring so much energy, humor, and honesty into the classroom. Even on the hard days, there are moments that remind me why I am there, whether it is a student making me laugh, finally understanding something we have been working on, or just sharing a small conversation in the hallway. I have come to really appreciate the relationships that make the school feel like more than just a workplace. It is a community that has challenged me, welcomed me, and helped me grow as a teacher and person.

Why did you say "yes" to serving as a Catholic school educator through ACE Teaching Fellows?

I said “yes” to serving as a Catholic school educator through ACE Teaching Fellows because I have had the privilege of learning from teachers who want my greatest good, and I am honored to have the opportunity to do the same for the next generation of leaders!

What are you most looking forward to most as an ACE teacher this year?

The opportunity to do impactful work in a place that isn't familiar to me, as it is outside one's comfort zone that you grow the most.

What is the one thing that you love most about your ACE school? Why?

What I love most about St. Francis of Assisi is the commitment of its families. The willingness of parents to volunteer and show up for school events creates a community that extends far beyond the classroom. I've come to appreciate that one of the greatest strengths of a small Catholic school is its unique sense of community. SFA is a place where relationships are at the center and everyone shares in the responsibility of helping students grow. It's a special environment that is difficult to find elsewhere and one that I feel incredibly fortunate to be a part of!

What is the one thing that you love most about your ACE school? Why?

I would describe Cardinal Shehan School as lively, reflecting Cardinal Shehan’s energetic commitment to service, leadership, and education. I quickly learned the joy and connection to God my students felt through music. I took this as an opportunity to help revamp our school's church choir and music program, with the help of another coworker, Mr. Darrin Scott. Although we both had classes of our own to attend to, we started the music program at the school again and created the beautiful and lively CSS Church Choir. We have around 25 active members now, sing weekly at mass, at school events, and bring others closer to Christ through song.

What is the one thing that you love most about your ACE school? Why?

The thing I love the most about Cristo Rey Baltimore is our various traditions that we have to celebrate our students. Between 9th graders receiving crosses, 10th graders receiving pins, 11th graders receiving rings, and 12th graders receiving ties, we do a great job celebrating student success, achievement, and academic milestones on the road to college.
